New York City Lamaze Childbirth Educator Training Program is a leading childbirth educator training program located in the heart of New York City.  Our 3 day seminar is your start on the pathway to becoming a Lamaze Certified Childbirth Educator (LCCE).

I have been an extremely passionate Lamaze Certified Childbirth Educator since 2012, certified doula for almost 2 decades, and certified lactation counselor for a decade… I have over 40 years of combined experience in the field of childbirth.

I know learning can be fun (as it should be, after all, that’s what keeps us interested, right?) and I especially love teaching how to teach, along with mentoring those who are at the beginning of their journey.  My classes are fun, thought-provoking, and inspiring (so I’ve been told!).

We serve Doulas, childbirth educators who wish to become certified, nurses, midwives, obstetricians, and those who are new to the childbirth field and passionate about childbirth.

New York City Lamaze Childbirth Educator Training Program is the first step towards certification as a Lamaze childbirth educator.  We provide a rigorous curriculum for three full days where you will learn how to:

• Create, teach, and evaluate a Lamaze Childbirth Course and create fun interactive activities that will help to build confidence in your student’s ability to give birth, while also providing important information to partners/support persons about how to support their pregnant loved one physically, informationally, and emotionally.

• Promote normal, safe, and healthy goals throughout pregnancy, labor and postpartum, including breastfeeding support.

• Build a curriculum that emphasizes and threads the Lamaze Six Healthy Birth Practices in each class.

• Share information about how medical interventions and complications can interfere with the normal flow of labor and birth

• Teach your students to advocate for themselves throughout pregnancy, labor, and postpartum phases.

• Properly prepare to take the Lamaze Certification Exam.

NYC Lamaze Childbirth Educator Seminar

The New York City Lamaze Childbirth Educator Program was founded by Dr. Judith Lothian and co-directed with Allison Walsh (year?).  The training program is responsible for launching the careers of hundreds of childbirth educators for over two decades.  In September of 2023, New York City Lamaze Childbirth Educator Program experienced a great loss with the passing of Judy.  Her contributions as an educator, scholar, prolific researcher, author, speaker, and childbirth advocate - not only to Lamaze International, but to the entire field of childbirth education - are incredibly vast and she will be greatly missed. 

The program’s mission, to build childbirth educators that will spread the powerful message of the Simple Story of Birth, continues on under the leadership of co-directors Robin Douthit and Allison Walsh.

Bios:

Robin Gibson-Douthit, LCCE, CD(DONA), CLC, MA (Co-Director): Robin is a Lamaze Certified Childbirth Educator, a Certified Birth Doula, and Certified Lactation Counselor living and working in New York City.  She teaches for a major NYC hospital system and in her own practice Flourishing Birth, which she founded in 2019.  Robin has participated on the “Meet The Experts” panel and as a speaker at the New York Baby Show, and enjoyed being a podcast host in season three of The Lamaze Podcast.  Robin loves teaching and mentoring while serving as a co-director of the NYC Lamaze Childbirth Educator Program.  She currently serves as President-Elect on Lamaze International’s Board of Directors. A native New Yorker, she shares a home with her family in the heart of New York City.

Allison Walsh, IBCLC, LCCE, FACCE (Co-Director): Allison is an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant, a Lamaze Certified Childbirth Educator, and a doula in private practice in New York.  She is founder of the Lactation Learning Collective which mentors IBCLC candidates, co-director of the NYC Lamaze Childbirth Educator Program, a La Leche League Leader, and a delegate to the United States Breastfeeding Committee. She has served in various leadership roles including President of Lamaze International and member of the board of Directors of Haven Midwifery Collective.  Allison is a graduate of Syracuse University and mother of three children.
